WOW! Centre Manager (Job Share)

18.5 hours per week

£24,000 – 28,000 per annum (pro rata) dependent on experience

Fixed Term until August 2020

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic woman to join our team at WOW! Women’s Centre to job share with our current manager.  Over the past year we have established a diverse timetable of events and activities and seen extensive growth in our membership and timetable. A little bit about WOW!

WOW! Women’s Centre is a Big Lottery funded project with secure funding currently until August 2020. We are based in Newport on the Isle of Wight.  WOW! Women’s Centre exists to empower and support women and girls on the Isle of Wight and provide a safe space. WOW! is a centre of coproduction and has over 500 members. There are no referral processes or eligibility thresholds to make use of WOW!, the only criteria is that you are a woman or a girl! Any member of WOW! is there because they have chosen to be.

Many of the women who are members of WOW! are (or have) experienced severe and multiple disadvantage. This includes domestic abuse, poor mental health, financial hardship, bullying, hate crime, self-harm. eating disorders, estrangement from family, grief, disability/long term health conditions, social isolation, (so called) honour based abuse, forced marriage, sexual exploitation, sex work, self-harm, eating disorders, addiction, interaction with social care and experience of the Criminal Justice System. In addition a higher than proportionally representative number of WOW! members are from minority ethnic backgrounds.

General support is offered at WOW! by way of assistance with administration tasks such as form filling, signposting and, most importantly, a listening ear over a cup of tea (and occasionally a piece of cake). Use of computers, Wi-Fi, telephones and access to printing as well as support with tasks such as CV writing and responding to job interviews is also available. WOW! is open Monday to Thursday and Wednesday evenings for drop in sessions. No appointment is needed. WOW! also offers a packed programme of events including arts and crafts, cooking and baking, accredited training and  courses, book groups, henna club, pilates, singing, yoga, massage, holistic therapies, and peer-led support groups relating to issues such as addiction and grief.  Everything at WOW is at no cost to members, including membership.  WOW also offers volunteering opportunities. Women volunteering their time and skills lie at the heart of WOW’s delivery.
